Lots of bass for its size and a long-rated battery (24 hours), with quick pairing to iPhones and Android phones. The mids are thin, it distorts at high volume, and there's no EQ.

Top complaints

  • Distorts when loud

SoundGuys says it starts sounding compressed past 50% volume and the highs distort above 80%, so it's a poor fit for parties. Wirecutter found it a little bright and edgy.

  • No EQ, thin mids

SoundGuys lists under-emphasized mids and no equalizer (none in the Beats app or iOS) among its cons.

  • Missing extras

SoundGuys notes no hands-free Siri, no AirPlay and no 3.5mm input. Wirecutter says it plays only about 2 dB louder than the cheaper Wonderboom 4.

What owners love

Good for
  • iPhone and Android owners who want one-tap pairing

What experts say

  • SoundGuys: 7.6/10. Great bass and battery for personal use or small gatherings, but it lacks mids and an EQ and distorts when loud.
  • Wirecutter (NYT): Not a pick: much better than before, but only about 2 dB louder than the cheaper Wonderboom 4 and a little bright and edgy.
