Wirecutter's runner-up, and the only machine there that removed most of a red wine stain. It's light and well rated by owners, but the trigger and switches are awkward, it's noisy, it leaves carpet damper than the Tineco, and owners say the plastic tank handle breaks.

Top complaints

  • Awkward trigger and controls

Wirecutter says the power and mode switches sit on opposite sides of the machine, the hold-and-release spray trigger is tiresome, the handle is less comfortable than the Tineco's and the brush doesn't stop when the handle is upright.

  • Fiddly tanks; plastic handle breaks

Wirecutter says the tank screw caps aren't attached and the clean-water tank is hard to fill. HGTV (testing the Pet Pro Plus version) found the dirty tank's small opening hard to rinse. Amazon's summary says durability is a concern because the plastic tank handle breaks quickly.

  • Damper carpet, noise and leaks

Wirecutter says it dried carpet better than most but took significantly longer than the top pick, was noticeably louder, and leaked more after shutoff. Amazon's summary says suction gets mixed reviews.

What owners love

  • Strong cleaner, best on red wine

Wirecutter says it removed urine, soda, dirt and peanut butter as well as the top pick and was the only machine that removed most of the red wine. Amazon owners find it effective on pet stains.

  • Light and versatile

At 17.5 lb it was one of the lightest Wirecutter tested, with an 8-ft hose and tools for couches and cars. Amazon owners say it's as easy as vacuuming and not bulky.

  • Express mode for quick refreshes

Wirecutter notes an Express Clean mode that uses less water for a shorter dry time.

What experts say

  • Wirecutter (NYT): Runner-up (updated 2026-06-04): cleans nearly as well as the Tineco and best on red wine, but more awkward, noisier, leakier, and leaves carpet damper. It found the pricier Pet Pro Plus no better.
  • Vacuum Wars: The Pet Pro Plus (3588F) version ranks #2 with a 4.01 score (updated 2026-10-07): 1-gallon tank, 35-ft cord, 8-ft hose, Express and Deep Clean modes; no cons listed.
  • HGTV: The Pet Pro Plus version is best for pet stains (updated 2026-07-14): a long-term tester relies on it and it reaches under furniture; cons are a hard-to-clean dirty tank and a finicky upholstery nozzle.
