The cheapest way into Oral-B's quieter, gentler iO motor, with a visible pressure light. It locks you into pricier iO-only heads, and it has the highest share of 1-star Amazon ratings among the big-brand picks here.

Top complaints

  • Stops working after about 6 months

Amazon's review summary says many customers report the brush stopping after 6 months of use, with battery life and durability both getting mixed reviews. 10% of Amazon ratings are 1-star.

  • iO-only heads cost more

Standard Oral-B heads don't fit iO models. Wirecutter found iO heads at about $7 each in an eight-pack and up to $15 each, more than double standard heads. Electric Teeth lists this as a con.

  • Unlabeled modes, mold-prone gap, slow charging

Electric Teeth notes there are no mode labels or icons, a full charge takes up to 16 hours, and the gap at the head and neck can trap bacteria and grow mold. Wirecutter says some customer reviewers clean that iO junction daily.

What owners love

  • Quieter and gentler than older Oral-Bs

Electric Teeth measured a maximum of 64 dB, versus 73 dB for the Pro 1000, and found the iO action gentler and less aggressive.

  • Easy-to-read pressure light

Amazon shoppers like its ease of use, and one notes that the pressure light makes good technique simple. Electric Teeth describes white, green and red light states.

  • Cleans like a dentist visit

Amazon shoppers call it the best in its class for cleaning, and Electric Teeth says it cleans well.

Good for
  • Oral-B fans who want a quieter, gentler brush
  • Learning not to press too hard (light-ring pressure sensor)
  • About 2.5 weeks per charge
