Top complaints
Honda EU7000iS
- Very expensive
Popular Mechanics calls it very expensive at more than $4,000. Wirecutter says Honda's similar U7000iS costs two to three times as much as competitors' similarly sized generators.
- Gasoline only
Popular Mechanics' main con: Honda doesn't make dual- or tri-fuel generators. Wirecutter notes the same for its Honda pick.
- Very heavy
263 lb. It took three people to guide it down a ramp, though it rolls easily on its 10-inch wheels (Popular Mechanics).
Honda EU2200i
- Too small for home backup
Popular Mechanics' first con is that it isn't powerful enough for home backup. Wirecutter, which once picked it, now says Honda's smaller models cost three to four times as much as comparable generators from other respected brands, which is hard to justify.
- Tiny fuel tank
The tank holds 0.95 gallon (Popular Mechanics). Bob Vila lists the limited fuel capacity as a con: up to 8.1 hours at 25% load but 3.2 hours at full output.
- Pricey, gas-only and no USB
Amazon owners are mixed on value for money, with some calling it expensive. Bob Vila notes there are no USB outlets, and Honda generators run on gasoline only (Wirecutter).
