The classic suitcase record player: no setup, Bluetooth in and out, and lots of colors. When Wirecutter tested the earlier Cruiser, it sounded thin and blaring, and its tracking force was too heavy for the reviewer's 5-gram gauge, which he says wears records faster. Crosley says the Plus isolates its speakers, but no expert has re-tested it.
Top complaints
- Thin, blaring sound
In Wirecutter's 2020 test of the earlier Cruiser, the sound was thin and blaring, the bass was hard to hear, and motor noise leaked through the speakers. Wirecutter didn't recommend it. Amazon's review summary says opinions on its sound are split between good and poor.
- Heavy tracking force wears records
Wirecutter couldn't measure the tracking force of the Cruiser or Victrola Plaza because it was above its 5-gram gauge's limit. The reviewer guessed it was fixed at about 7-8 grams, compared with about 2 grams for a typical audiophile cartridge, and concluded that the warnings about record wear appear to be right. A vintage-audio dealer told Wirecutter these cheap players mostly use primitive ceramic cartridges.
- Wobble and out-of-box defects
Amazon's summary says stability is mixed, with several owners reporting that the record wobbles during playback, and opinions on value are split. A dealer quoted by Wirecutter said an unusually large share of cheap all-in-one players are defective right out of the box.
What owners love
- No setup at all
Wirecutter says setting up these players was a welcome relief: you remove a twist tie and some foam, then plug it in. Amazon shoppers find it easy to use, with simple controls.
- Lots of features for the price
Crosley lists three speeds, adjustable pitch, an aux input, a cueing lever, and Bluetooth in and out. Amazon owners like streaming through it to other speakers.
- Fun looks
Amazon shoppers like the color options, and Crosley sells it in many finishes.

What experts say
- Wirecutter (NYT): Not recommended (2020 test of the earlier Cruiser): thin sound, motor noise, distorted line output, and tracking force too heavy to measure. The pre-Plus model was tested.
