Lots of cleaning power and a capable app for the money, but it is loud and can rattle at higher speeds, and HouseFresh says Levoit overstated its filter grade.

Top complaints

  • Loud or rattling at high speeds

Wirecutter heard a persistent rattle on medium-high and high that repositioning didn't fix. HouseFresh measured 62.3 dBA at top speed and an annoying whir on speed 1.

  • Filter not HEPA as first advertised

HouseFresh says the filter is HEPA-grade only in sleep mode and that Levoit dropped its HEPA claims in 2023 after a BBB challenge brought by Dyson. Particle filtration is still excellent.

  • Bonded filter and running cost

HouseFresh notes the bonded filter must be replaced whole when the carbon is spent ($59.99, 6-12 months; about $173/year to run). Amazon shoppers are split on whether it's worth the price.

What owners love

  • Big raw cleaning power

HouseFresh measured an estimated 375 cfm PM1 CADR at top speed, strong for under $300. Wirecutter says it performed well and suits rooms up to about 700 sq ft.

  • Capable app and fast sensor

HouseFresh praises the laser sensor and customizable VeSync auto modes, with Home Assistant integration.

  • Owners report better air and allergy relief

Amazon shoppers say it performs well, runs quietly in normal use and is easy to set up.

Good for
  • Large rooms on a mid budget
  • App automations and smart-home setups
  • Fast cleanup on high
