Top complaints
JBL Flip 7
- Battery falls short
SoundGuys measured 6 hours 16 minutes at 80 dB, far below the 14-16 hours JBL claims, and lists it as a con. Amazon's summary calls battery mixed, with some saying it dies at 50-60% volume. Several 1-star Walmart reviews say it dies after 2-3 hours or won't stay charged.
- No charging cable, can't link older JBLs
Tom's Guide and Amazon owners note there's no charging cable in the box. SoundGuys says it can't link with Party Boost speakers like the Flip 6, and a Walmart buyer returned it for that reason.
- Some want more bass
Wirecutter's listeners liked it but would have preferred a little more bass. A 1-star Walmart review calls it small with no bass, and another says it disconnected repeatedly.
Bose SoundLink Max
- Pricey and heavy
SoundGuys lists the $399 price and the 4.6-pound weight as cons. Wirecutter calls it comparatively expensive. Tom's Guide notes that for about $50 more you can get the Sonos Move 2 with Wi-Fi. Amazon owners are split on value.
- Units that stop working
Amazon's summary says some owners report it stopped working after three months. Several 1-star Walmart reviews describe power buttons that stopped working, including one after 3 months.
- Battery, Bluetooth and bass gripes
Amazon calls battery and Bluetooth mixed, with some reporting fast drain. Bose's reply on Walmart says extreme volume can cut playback to about 3 hours. Wirecutter says it has less bass than some rivals, and one Walmart owner found it crackly when loud. SoundGuys notes the rubber finish collects dust and the ports have no covers.
