The Amazon best seller and a pick at GH, Byrdie, Forbes, InStyle and Women's Health, with an ice-cooled head that testers found comfortable. Results were uneven in Wirecutter's panel, and a few GH testers got irritation, including hives.

Top complaints

  • Results vary between people

In Wirecutter's three-month panel, some testers saw major hair-growth reduction while others saw minimal to no change. Amazon's summary says some owners say it works well while others report it doesn't function properly (functionality is a mixed topic, 675 mentions).

  • Irritation for some

A few GH testers had irritation, including hives, after use, and GH suggests skipping it if your skin is sensitive. Byrdie notes it occasionally pinches skin. (InStyle's tester, by contrast, never had tender skin.)

  • Single big head, noisy fan, frequent sessions

Wirecutter found its one head too big to hold evenly on concave or convex spots. Women's Health says the cooling fan is a bit noisy. InStyle notes you need to use it every other day to see results, and both legs took about 20 minutes.

What owners love

  • Cooling makes it comfortable

The sapphire head is cooled to about 65°F (Forbes, Women's Health). Wirecutter says the glide mode and skin cooling made treatment less painful, and GH's tester felt condensation form on the cold head. Pain-free is a positive Amazon topic (368 mentions).

  • Fast results in GH's study

GH testers gave it the highest scores for hair reduction after repeated use and for ease of use on all body parts, and it gave the fastest results of the devices tested. Women's Health's tester saw thinning in three weeks.

  • Modes for thick hair and large areas

Four modes, including a stubborn-hair mode that fires two flashes per press, an auto-glide mode and a skin-tone sensor that sets intensity (GH, Forbes).

Good for
  • Comfort, thanks to the cooled head
  • Thick or stubborn hair (dual-flash mode)
  • Gliding over legs with auto-flash

Scores (tap for why)

  • Results (as reported)3.5
Why 3.5?Top hair-reduction scores and the fastest results in GH's study, but Wirecutter's panel was split from major reduction to none, and Amazon functionality mentions are mixed.
  • Comfort (pain, heat)4.0
Why 4.0?The cooled head makes treatment less painful (Wirecutter, Forbes, WH), and InStyle named it best for sensitive skin. GH saw irritation in a few testers, and Byrdie notes occasional pinching.
  • Speed & coverage3.5
Why 3.5?Auto-glide and dual flashes; Forbes cites about 10 minutes for full-body sessions. InStyle took about 20 minutes for both legs and needed sessions every other day, and WH estimates 20-30 minutes for a full treatment.
  • Skin-tone range3.0
Why 3.0?GH lists fair to medium/dark skin, Forbes light to medium, and WH fair to olive with brown to black hair. Not recommended for Fitzpatrick VI or blonde, red, gray or white hair (Forbes).
  • Durability & flash life3.5
Why 3.5?Forbes lists unlimited flashes, but GH lists 300,000. Quality is a positive Amazon topic (587 mentions), though some owners say it doesn't function properly. The 1-2 star share is 13%.

What experts say

  • Good Housekeeping: Best for thick hair (updated 2026-07-15): top scores for hair reduction and ease of use, fastest results, but a few testers had irritation including hives.
  • Wirecutter (NYT): Not a pick (2026-09-04): easy and less painful thanks to glide and cooling, but some testers saw major reduction and others minimal to none.
  • Byrdie: Best overall (updated 2026-06-18): effective at slowing hair growth; occasionally pinches skin.
