Top complaints
PETKIT EverSweet Solo 2 Cat Water Fountain (Wireless Pump)
- Pump dies after a few months
Durability is a negative aspect in Amazon's review summary and reliability is mixed. Owners say the pump lasts only a couple of months. Wirecutter staffers twice needed PetKit to replace a failed pump on its former PetKit pick, and one of those service cases was drawn out and frustrating.
- No wall adapter in the box
Wirecutter says it doesn't come with the 5V 1A USB wall adapter it needs, so testers used an old phone charger.
Source: Wirecutter - Bubbler only, plastic bowl, nosy app
Wirecutter notes the only flow mode is a center bubbler, which may not suit pets that like falling water or big dogs that take big slurps. Its app doesn't push low-water alerts on its own and collects more data than Wirecutter thinks necessary. Cats.com lists the plastic basin and dish as a con.

Petlibro Dockstream 2 Smart Cordless Water Fountain
- Expensive to buy and to keep in filters
Wirecutter says it costs almost twice as much as its top pick and gets pricier still if you use Petlibro's filters on the recommended two-week schedule. A 1-star Walmart reviewer complains it requires the brand's expensive filters.
Source: Wirecutter, Walmart reviews (lowest rated) - Battery mode isn't continuous flow
Wirecutter says that on battery it only runs when its sensor detects someone in front of it. The sensor can't see pets approaching from behind and can't tell people from pets, so a busy spot drains the battery faster.
Source: Wirecutter - App data isn't always accurate
Wirecutter's app logged drinks once or twice when no pet could have drunk, and it can't separate multiple animals. Walmart reviewers question paying for the app's monitoring subscription.
