The indoor oven both Wirecutter and Serious Eats keep recommending: it reaches about 750°F, recovers fast and needs no turning. It is an expensive single-purpose box that only fits a 12-inch pie and can smoke enough to trip alarms.

Top complaints

  • Expensive single-purpose appliance

Wirecutter calls it pricey and specific-use and wishes the warranty were longer than two years. Amazon's summary says customers disagree on whether it's worth the price.

  • Small cavity, proprietary peel

Wirecutter says the cavity fits a 12-inch pizza and little else, and it had to use Breville's own metal peel because most peels don't fit. Size gets mixed feedback on Amazon, with several owners calling it too small.

  • Smoke and cleaning

Wirecutter's 2019 test set off the smoke alarm twice. Amazon owners report difficulty cleaning it.

What owners love

  • Fast preheat and excellent recovery

Wirecutter: fully preheats in 20 minutes and returns to 750°F within about five minutes, pizza after pizza, while weaker electric ovens struggled after three or four pies.

    Source: Wirecutter
  • No turning, well-calibrated presets

Wirecutter found the heat even enough that pies need no turning, and the presets needed little tinkering. Serious Eats' oven reached 797°F, above its stated maximum.

  • Restaurant-quality results

Amazon owners praise the pizza quality and precise temperature control; Wirecutter says pop-up pizza makers use it for its reliability.

Good for
  • Pizza nights without outdoor space
  • Party-style back-to-back pies
  • Preset styles from frozen to Neapolitan

Why 4.5?Presets, a manual mode and no turning (Wirecutter); easy digital controls (Serious Eats). You are limited to Breville's peel.
  • Size & portability3.5
Why 3.5?Microwave-sized countertop unit (18.1 x 18.5 x 10.6 in, 32.3 lb). Wirecutter notes pop-up cooks value its portable size.
  • Build & durability4.0
Why 4.0?Wirecutter cites its reliability with professional pop-up cooks; Amazon owners say it works consistently. The warranty is 2 years.

What experts say

  • Wirecutter (NYT): Best indoor countertop pizza oven, 'sleek, expensive, and fast'; downsides are the small cavity, smoke at high heat, and the price.
  • Serious Eats (indoor ovens): Best compact indoor oven, with beautiful char and quick recovery, but very expensive and not as even as its top-pick Ooni Volt 2.
