Two cameras, one aimed down at packages, plus free face, person and package alerts with no subscription earned PCMag's package-protection pick. But Wirecutter's battery died in under two weeks, Walmart owners report fast drain and overheating, and Anker had a 2022 camera-security scandal.
Subscription: Optional: 8GB built-in storage and smart features free; cloud $4/mo (one camera) or $14/mo (Consumer Reports)
Top complaints
- Battery drains fast
Wirecutter says the internal battery died in less than two weeks, probably because of the two lenses. Several low-star Walmart reviews say it doesn't last a month, including one that needed a recharge 17 days after install.
- Overheating, chime and Wi-Fi trouble
Two 1-star Walmart reviews say it overheats in the sun, shuts down and goes offline. Other Walmart owners report the chime not ringing and failed Wi-Fi setup. Amazon's summary calls reliability mixed.
- Middling privacy score and a past security incident
Consumer Reports gives it only midlevel privacy and video scores. In December 2022, TechRadar reported that Anker confirmed security flaws in its eufy cameras: the Doorbell Dual's live feed could be opened via a URL with no password, and push-notification thumbnails went through the cloud. PCMag also notes there's no HomeKit or IFTTT support.
What owners love
- Second camera for packages
PCMag says the downward camera gives a clear view of your steps, and Delivery Guard, package alerts and Package Live Check all worked. Consumer Reports lists the dual cameras and package detection as pros.
Source: PCMag review, Consumer Reports - Smart features with no monthly fee
PCMag says person, package and face recognition are free, features many rivals charge for. Video is stored in 8GB of built-in memory. Amazon shoppers like that there are no subscription fees.
- Easy setup, fast alerts
PCMag calls installation a breeze, with doorbell and motion alerts arriving instantly. Consumer Reports rates alerts speedy, and Amazon shoppers find it easy to set up.
- You'll run it on battery and hate frequent charging
- Your door gets hot direct sun
- Brand privacy history is a dealbreaker
- Package theft worries (second downward camera)
- No-subscription smart alerts
- Free facial recognition

- Consumer Reports: On CR's best list, with speedy alerts and strong security, but only midlevel video and privacy.
- Wirecutter (NYT): Dismissed: the internal battery died in less than two weeks, and its picks performed better overall.
