Wirecutter found this small corded robot surprisingly effective on grimy 12th-floor windows, but it often needs a second pass, misses tight corners and needs to be watched. Amazon owners are split on streaks and some report early failures.
Top complaints
- Streaks and extra passes
Wirecutter needed a second cycle to get its windows fully clean and says a squeegee is better if you want perfectly streak-free glass you can reach. Amazon's review summary says some owners report streaks and smears. One 1-star Amazon reviewer saw noticeable streaks after three passes, and a 3-star Walmart reviewer saw horizontal streaks from top to bottom.
- Cords tangle; safety rope doubts
Wirecutter says the power cord and safety rope need slack and tend to tangle, and you must stay nearby while it runs. A 1-star Amazon reviewer called the carabiner safety cord essentially useless because it tangles with the power cord. A Wirecutter reader said it got stuck in a far corner of an exterior window and had to be unplugged and hauled back in by the rope.
- Reliability and window fit
Amazon's summary says reliability is a concern, with some owners saying it stopped working after the second use. Wirecutter notes it can't clean arched, curved, cracked or textured glass, can't cross muntins, and left an uncleaned strip on its double-hung windows.
What owners love
- Clears very dirty high windows
Wirecutter says it 'knocked my socks off' with its cleaning efficiency on windows with six months of city grime, leaving near-transparent glass after the first pass.
- Reassuring safety features
Wirecutter notes the voice prompt 'Robot attached', a tethered safety cord, and a backup battery that Ecovacs says holds it on the glass for 20-30 minutes in a power outage. It stayed put during a month of testing.
- Cheaper than hiring cleaners
Amazon's review summary says owners find it fun to watch and cheaper than hiring cleaners, and some say their windows are the cleanest in years.
- You want a streak-free finish on windows you can reach by hand
- Your panes are smaller than the robot, divided by muntins, curved or textured
- You want to start it and walk away
- Hard-to-reach windows up to about 8 ft tall and 10 ft wide
- The lowest price in the Winbot range
- Occasional cleaning of mirrors and shower glass

What experts say
- Wirecutter (NYT): A surprisingly effective window-cleaning robot (published 2026-06-18) for hard-to-reach windows. It doesn't work on oversize or irregular windows, needs supervision, and the pad may need rinsing after every cycle; refill solution costs about $25 per liter.
