Top complaints
Ride1Up Roadster V3
- Battery drains fast at high assist
Tom's Guide's battery fell to 80% after five miles at the highest assist level (its budget guide describes this as an 80% drain). The battery is 360 Wh (Electric Bike Review).
- Not made for cargo
Tom's Guide's main con: not ideal for carrying cargo or large loads; a rack and panniers are sold separately. Electric Bike Review notes few mounting points.
- Fiddly battery removal
Electric Bike Review says removing the battery can chip the paint and the release lever isn't intuitive; the single-speed version suits flatter areas.
Trek FX+ 1
- Rear wheel bolts recalled
CPSC announced on 2026-01-29 that rear wheel bolts on Model Year 2026 FX+ 1/1S bikes sold before 2025-10-28 can break, letting the wheel separate (7 reports, no injuries). Dealers replace them free.
- Range below the claim
WIRED says it is getting much less than the advertised 50 miles and suggests keeping a charger at work. Electric Bike Review got 33 miles on maximum assist.
- Small annoyances
Electric Bike Review says the display washed out in direct sun a few times, the brake levers rattle on rough roads, the battery isn't user-removable and there's no security suite.
