Top complaints
Fi Series 3+ Smart Dog Collar
- Needs its own collar, which can rattle
It attaches only to collars with Fi's proprietary endlinks. Wirecutter says some users, including one long-term tester, complain about the metal endlinks clicking or rattling.
Source: Wirecutter (GPS pet trackers) - Goes offline; zigzag paths
Wirecutter saw the tracker go offline or fail to connect more often than Tractive's, and its live path sometimes zigzagged through buildings. It also works better if the app stays open in the background.
Source: Wirecutter (GPS pet trackers) - Mixed accuracy and battery for owners
Amazon's review summary says accuracy and durability are mixed, and some owners need to charge every 5 to 6 days while others report phenomenal battery life. Some find it too expensive for what it does.
Tractive Dog 6 Smart Dog Tracker
- False escape alerts
PCMag got four to eight false 'left the safe zone' alerts per day while the dog was napping nearby; Tractive told PCMag the system is tuned to err on the side of sensitivity. A Wirecutter long-term tester also had false escape alerts, while Wirecutter's own testing twice missed real exits.
- Battery life varies a lot
PCMag couldn't get the Wi-Fi Power Saving Zone to work after weeks of troubleshooting, so battery life suffered. Amazon's review summary says some owners get two weeks per charge and others only one.
- Bulky, with mixed durability
Wirecutter calls it pretty clunky next to Fi's trackers, and PCMag says it feels about twice as large as the Fi Mini. Amazon's summary says durability is mixed, with some units breaking within 60 days.
