The smart parts hide inside the door, so it looks like an ordinary deadbolt, and it supports Matter and Apple Home Key. It's CNET's best invisible lock and a PCWorld Editors' Choice. But it costs about $350, the keypad and Wi-Fi bridge are extra, and there's no fingerprint reader or way to jump-start a dead battery.

Top complaints

  • Expensive, with paid add-ons

CNET, PCWorld and Wirecutter all call it pricey at about $349 to $350. PCWorld notes the keypad is a $79 add-on.

  • Remote access needs a hub

Wirecutter says it doesn't support remote access without an extra hub. PCWorld says you need Level Connect ($79) or a Thread-capable device such as an Apple TV, HomePod, Echo or Nest Hub. Wirecutter adds that non-Apple platforms can't use many of its best features.

  • Touch-unlock quirks, no backup power

Amazon's summary says some owners report touch-to-unlock and geofencing problems. PCWorld says the single CR2 battery can't lock or unlock once it is critically low, and there's no USB-C or other way to power it temporarily, so the physical key matters. Wirecutter notes that without a phone you'll need to carry a fob or card.

What owners love

  • Looks like an ordinary deadbolt

CNET says no one would know at a glance that it's a smart lock. PCWorld calls it 'the best and most attractive smart lock you can buy', and Amazon shoppers praise the invisible design.

  • Many ways to unlock, Matter support

Wirecutter lists touch with a paired iPhone, Apple Home Key tap, key card or fob, app, key and voice. PCWorld says Matter over Thread lets it work across several platforms, with two NFC fobs included.

  • Quick install, top security grade

PCWorld installed it in under 10 minutes with no cable to route, though removing the old paddle took a manual footnote. It notes a BHMA AAA rating and an IP54 lock. Amazon shoppers call it easy to install.

Good for
  • A smart lock that looks like a normal deadbolt
  • Apple Home Key users
  • Homes with a Thread/Matter hub already

Scores (tap for why)

  • Reliable locking3.5
Why 3.5?PCWorld noted no failures and a faster processor, but Amazon owners report touch-to-unlock and geofencing problems.
  • App & smart home3.5
Why 3.5?Matter over Thread works with Apple, Alexa, Google and SmartThings, plus Home Key (PCWorld, CNET). Remote access needs a hub, and many features are Apple-only (Wirecutter).
  • Easy install4.5
Why 4.5?Under 10 minutes for PCWorld, with no power cable to route. Amazon owners call it easy.
  • Durability4.0
Why 4.0?BHMA AAA, IP54, zinc and stainless steel (PCWorld). Some Amazon owners say it feels weaker than an average deadbolt.

What experts say

  • CNET: Best invisible smart lock: compact with many features and Matter support, but expensive and without a fingerprint reader.
  • PCWorld: Editors' Choice (August 2025), recommended 'without reservation', with the keypad and Wi-Fi bridge as paid extras.
  • Wirecutter (NYT): Worth considering if Home Key and looks matter most. It isn't a pick because remote access needs a hub, it's $350, and you need a fob without a phone.
