Top complaints
Insta360 Link 2 Pro
- Expensive
Wirecutter says at a typical $250 it's probably overkill unless you need top picture and audio. Tom's Guide lists 'a little expensive' and notes it costs $100 more than the Link 2 with the same zoom, resolution and focus system.
- Feels fragile, and it sits tall
Wirecutter says it feels more fragile than other webcams it tested and doesn't recommend it for travel. The gimbal also puts the lens higher above the screen, so you can look like you're glancing away.
Source: Wirecutter (NYT) best webcams - Some owners report glitches and slow adjustments
Amazon's summary says some owners report it doesn't work without issues, notes very slow adjustments, and mentions compatibility problems such as with TikTok Studio. Tom's Guide also wanted better zoom than the 4x carried over from the Link 2.
Logitech Brio 505
- Magnetic mount can come loose
Wirecutter found the magnetic button that holds the camera to its clip can loosen, so the webcam stops staying in place until you retighten it. Tom's Hardware (testing the near-identical Brio 500) kept pulling the camera off the mount when tilting it because the magnet is a little weak. Amazon's summary mentions the camera swiveling in unwanted directions.
- Pricey for 1080p, and value is debated
Tom's Hardware lists 'not budget-priced' and '1080p resolution' as cons, noting the older C920s costs less than half as much. Amazon owners are mixed on value, with some calling it overpriced and some saying it doesn't always work.
- Logi Tune software and autofocus draw mixed reviews
Tom's Hardware says Logi Tune 'is not great' and less precise than Logitech's older software. Amazon owners are mixed on autofocus, with some complaining about poor focus control. Wirecutter, by contrast, calls the software excellent.
Who should pick which
Pick the Insta360 Link 2 Pro if
People who live in video meetings and want to look and sound their best
Presenters who move around or use a whiteboard or desk view
Dim rooms
Skip it if: You travel with your webcam (Wirecutter says it feels fragile); You only take calls at your desk (it's overkill); You're on a budget (the Link 2C or Brio 505 cost far less)
Pick the Logitech Brio 505 if
Everyday video calls that look good with no tweaking
Rooms with mixed or tricky lighting
People who want a real privacy shutter (the Brio 500 is the same camera with a fixed cable)
Skip it if: You need 4K or want to crop and zoom heavily; You adjust the camera's angle often (the mount can slip); You want the cheapest decent webcam
