A long-time favorite with a wide height range, quick assembly and a beautiful bamboo top. But it now costs much more than it used to, its warranty was cut from 15 to 7 years, and it wobbles a little at max height.

Top complaints

  • Price no longer competitive

Wirecutter dropped it as a pick because the price rose until it no longer competed with Uplift. TechRadar calls it very expensive, and WIRED lists the bamboo desk at $1,325.

  • Warranty cut to 7 years

Wirecutter reports that Herman Miller shortened the warranty from 15 to 7 years. Herman Miller's store page now lists 7 years on the frame and motors, 5 on tops and 1 on grommets and surge protectors.

  • Slight wobble at max height; touchscreen controller

TechRadar and WIRED both note slight wobble at higher settings. WIRED says the newer touchscreen OLED controller is less reliable than the original programmable one.

What owners love

  • Fast, one-person assembly

TechRadar assembled it in about 15 minutes alone, with clear instructions and labeled parts.

  • Wide range and 350 lb capacity

Herman Miller lists about 25.75-51.25 in (3-stage) or 23-43.5 in (3-stage low) frames, 350 lb capacity and 1.5 in/sec speed.

  • Long-term owners are happy

WIRED's reviewer has used one for six years. Wirecutter says many of its staffers own Jarvis desks and are happy with them.

Good for
  • Bamboo-top looks
  • Wide height range including a low option
  • Quick one-person assembly

  • Height range5.0
Why 5.0?Up to about 51 in, with a low frame option down to 23 in (Herman Miller; TechRadar lists 22.9-51 in).
  • Easy assembly4.5
Why 4.5?About 15 minutes for one person with clear instructions (TechRadar).
  • Durability & warranty3.5
Why 3.5?Excellent build quality (TechRadar) and long owner track record, but the warranty is now 7 years on the frame and 5 on the top.

What experts say

  • TechRadar: 4.5 stars for excellent build quality and lift capacity; expensive, and the legs can wobble a little at max height (2023 review).
  • Wirecutter (NYT): A former pick, now passed over because of price increases and the warranty cut to 7 years; worth it on sale if you accept the shorter warranty.
  • WIRED: An excellent desk that has served a reviewer for six years, with slight wobble at higher levels; choose the programmable controls over the OLED unit.
