Top complaints

Uplift V3 Standing Desk

  • Price climbs and it's heavy

TechRadar lists 'pricy' and 'heavy, especially the larger models' as its cons. The desk starts at $599, and Wirecutter's 60-inch bamboo configuration comes to about $890.

  • Slight front-to-back wobble when tall

Wirecutter found the V3 slightly more wobbly front to back than its other picks, especially at 40 inches and above, and less stable at its highest settings than the Vari. It calls the difference small and the desk stable enough for normal work.

  • Bamboo tops have cracked

In early 2022 a few Wirecutter readers reported cracked bamboo desktops. Uplift told Wirecutter that cracks, including hairline cracks, are covered by the 15-year warranty. Wirecutter also notes a high-pitched whistle when the desk moves.

Herman Miller Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk (formerly Fully Jarvis)

  • Price no longer competitive

Wirecutter dropped it as a pick because the price rose until it no longer competed with Uplift. TechRadar calls it very expensive, and WIRED lists the bamboo desk at $1,325.

  • Warranty cut to 7 years

Wirecutter reports that Herman Miller shortened the warranty from 15 to 7 years. Herman Miller's store page now lists 7 years on the frame and motors, 5 on tops and 1 on grommets and surge protectors.

  • Slight wobble at max height; touchscreen controller

TechRadar and WIRED both note slight wobble at higher settings. WIRED says the newer touchscreen OLED controller is less reliable than the original programmable one.
