Top complaints

Uplift V3 Standing Desk

  • Price climbs and it's heavy

TechRadar lists 'pricy' and 'heavy, especially the larger models' as its cons. The desk starts at $599, and Wirecutter's 60-inch bamboo configuration comes to about $890.

  • Slight front-to-back wobble when tall

Wirecutter found the V3 slightly more wobbly front to back than its other picks, especially at 40 inches and above, and less stable at its highest settings than the Vari. It calls the difference small and the desk stable enough for normal work.

  • Bamboo tops have cracked

In early 2022 a few Wirecutter readers reported cracked bamboo desktops. Uplift told Wirecutter that cracks, including hairline cracks, are covered by the 15-year warranty. Wirecutter also notes a high-pitched whistle when the desk moves.

FlexiSpot E7 Pro Standing Desk

  • Wobble at full extension

WIRED says the desk can get wobbly when fully extended. Wirecutter found the regular E7 very wobbly at its top height (a different version from the E7 Pro). TechRadar found the E7 Pro very stable.

  • High-pitched whine, cheap-feeling controller

WIRED says the control unit feels a bit cheap and the desk emits a high-pitched whine. Wirecutter testers found the related E7 Pro Plus keypad cheap-looking and its motor marginally louder.

  • Shallow base top, heavy, short desktop warranty

WIRED notes the entry-level desktop is only 23 inches deep and that larger power adapters were hard to fit in the cable tray. TechRadar lists the heft of the wood-texture top as a con. FlexiSpot's own page shows only a 2-year warranty on chipboard and wood-texture tops.
