Top complaints
Coop Original Adjustable Pillow
- Chemical smell out of the box
Amazon's summary says several customers report an awful smell. One of the six Coop pillows Wirecutter ordered had a strong off-gassing smell for several days; the other five had no noticeable scent.
- Can run warm
Tom's Guide lists it as not for chronic hot sleepers. A Wirecutter reader said they wake up with a sweaty head on it, though CNN found it kept them cool and dry on warm nights.
- Thin cover that pills
Good Housekeeping saw the polyester/rayon cover pill after laundering and use. Wirecutter found the cover thinner and less resilient than others, and CNN's cat clawed holes in the thin knit cover of the Crescent version.
- Needs fluffing; adjusting is messy
Tom's Guide says it needs regular fluffing to keep its shape and support. Good Housekeeping found adjusting the fill a bit messy.

Saatva Latex Pillow
- Expensive, short warranty
It starts at $165 and is rarely on sale except in pairs. Tom's Guide calls the 45-night trial and one-year warranty meager for the price.
- Too firm for some
Tom's Guide says the few negative Saatva.com reviews include buyers who found it too firm or not soft enough.
- Latex core isn't washable; no fill adjustment
The cover and fiber layer wash, but the shredded latex core must be removed first. You choose between two lofts but can't adjust the fill.
